Anna Michelle Nelson was born in Ogden, Utah on April 5, 2002. She died on Friday, September 4, 2020. Anna was overflowing with passion and drive for life. Throughout her life, she consistently set her sights on what she wanted; she worked, practiced, and dedicated herself until she achieved whatever goal she set her sights on. Her smile, laughter, and happiness were contagious and all who were near her were lightened and brightened by her presence. She had many talents including making others feel included, loved, and understood. Anna loved music, drama, golf, friends, the beach, adventure, spontaneity, hard work, independence, her freedom, and especially her family. She loved being with her siblings whether it was playing games, stargazing, traveling, eating good food, finding new adventures or sitting at home and “hanging out”. Her presence and spunk will be dearly missed and cherished by her family.

She was involved in many musical performance groups throughout her life, many theatre productions, and shined brightly while performing.

She had up to three jobs at a time, working tirelessly towards her future. She served on the Highland City youth council and volunteered at American Fork Hospital during her senior year. She proudly graduated from American Fork High School in May of 2020 and received an academic scholarship to Southern Utah University where she was bursting with excitement to begin her studies later this month.

Anna was a faithful and active member of The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She received her young womanhood medallion with no prodding from her parents. Although our hearts are broken at this loss we are lifted by the knowledge that we will be together again in the eternities.

Anna is survived by her parents Travis and Julia Nelson of Highland, Utah and Amy Johnson Nelson of Akron, Ohio. Siblings: Cole Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Ethan Lindsay, Jacob Lindsay, and Ella Lindsay. Grandparents: Reed and Beverly Nelson, and Steve and Bonnie Johnson of Kaysville, Utah, and Lee Grant and Janet Porter of Bountiful, Utah. She also has many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who love her dearly.

In lieu of flowers donations would be gratefully accepted for a scholarship fund in Anna’s name by clicking here:

Oh my sweet Bella, I have struggled finding the right words to describe the essence of what you were, and continue to be, to anyone fortunate enough to have shared in your contagious love of life and the joy that filled the air everywhere you went. How does one describe a person so blessed and special that their character defines all that is good in this world. I thought I could use a phrase like a shining light in the darkness or a torch to be carried by all that know and love you, but I felt those phrases held little weight in regard to capturing that "it" factor you wore so well. Then it came to me; zeitgeist, lightning captured in a jar, a rare phenomenon that defines greatness and is timeless, a miracle! You, my sweet baby girl, are zeitgeist. Your laugh was infectious like your grandma Johnson, a hard worker like your grandma and grandpa Nelson, rational like your grandpa Johnson, smart like your dad, but your spirit, confidence, feistiness, uniqueness, and your capacity to unconditionally care for all, those gifts came from your mother who taught you that true happiness is being true to yourself. The attributes and influences I just mentioned was the perfect recipe that created the rare miracle you are, lightning captured in a jar, true zeitgeist! A force like that is endless. I see that miracle every time the wind blows through the trees', every time I watch the graceful flight of an eagle, every time I leave a trail only to stumble on a peaceful creek, every time I look into my grandson's eyes. There is a piece of you in all of us and those who have stood in your light are better people for it. We all prayed for a miracle of recovery for you but what we learned was the miracle was right in front of us for 18 years. You, my bella, were a gift to all of us from God. I love you Anna and a piece of your mom, my heart, and all those who love you, went with you. You will always be our lightning captured in a jar. Later my groovy chick, Cher

Sweet Anna always seemed to have a ready smile and a zest for life. I remember playing with her when she was just a small child and how just adored any game we came up with... even if it was as silly as drawing pictures in the thick carpet by running our fingers through it. I recall that she got excited about baking and was a great help in the kitchen to her Grandma Nelson. She babysat for me a couple of times and the kids always enjoyed her. I remember the deep bond she seemed to have with her brothers. The love, level of comfort and ease with them, and how much she just generally enjoyed being with them. As she grew into a young woman, she was always quick with a smile and a greeting when we met for family events. She was easy to talk to and showed a genuine interest in those around her. I love her dearly, and look forward with happiness in my heart at the prospect of meeting her again putting my arms around her.

The Butler Family is lucky to know Anna. Anna worked on the "painting crew" with my husband and children for a few summers at some of the charter schools. Anna proudly "earned" the nickname of the "Big Dripper" and one of our daughters was the "Little Dripper." Anna's contributions are still evident at North Star Academy. My girls loved having her on the crew with them and they said you couldn't help but be happy around her because that's how she was. We love you Anna!
