Colleen Steele Pyne, 90, died peacefully on July 30, 2020 in Springville, Utah holding the hand of her loving son, Jeff. Colleen was born in Canada on March 30, 1930 and was raised in Boise, Idaho by Mary Leota and Moroni Allen. She graduated from Boise High School in 1948 and shortly thereafter she met her future husband, Ernest Lee Pyne. They eloped to Winnemucca, Nevada on April 7, 1951 and were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together, they raised three sons and one daughter and were married for 56 years. Colleen embraced the life of a military wife for 23 years, living in ten different states and supporting Ernie every step of the way by creating and maintaining a lovely home, cooking amazing meals and treats, celebrating the holidays and caring for her kids and many pets. She served valiantly in the church as a teacher where she put her heart and soul into every lesson making posters, handouts and decorations that tied in wonderfully with the message. She also served in many church leadership roles including Stake Relief Society President in Ohio where she organized a trip for the sisters to attend the Nauvoo Monument to Women in 1978. Upon Ernie’s retirement, they settled in sunny Redlands, California in 1979 where they enjoyed their beautiful home and pool and enjoyed serving as Bishop and Bishop’s wife and temple workers in the Los Angeles temple. Colleen took care of her mother, Grandma Allen, for 15 years in her home and diligently visited her half-sister, Jeanie, who lived in a care home. While Ernie was off golfing, Colleen enjoyed listening to music, attending musicals, singing in various choirs, painting in oil and watercolor, and her favorite activity- gardening. She became a master gardener and her yard became another kind of canvas as she planted and nurtured Bougainvillea, Geraniums, Impatiens, and her favorite Roses. During these years, Colleen, Ernie, and often her sister, Carol would travel all over the U.S. in a large RV visiting National Parks and catching up with friends and family. Colleen was unquestionably a people person. Throughout her entire life she always enjoyed visiting with people and sharing her kind spirit with them. She befriended restaurant staff and patrons of her favorite places and always greeted little children with a smile and a hug. Whether in a restaurant or walking down the aisle of Sam’s Club, Colleen would reach out to strangers with love and kindness and they would respond in kind. She loved everyone but most especially her family. She loved hosting barbeques, picnics, or pool parties with her kids and grandkids. She really knew how to throw a great party and make everyone feel welcome and included. She is survived by her beloved sister, Carol, her four children: Terry (Denise), Tony (Jacque), Jeff (Vicki), and Shari (Greg). She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Nelson Family Mortuary at 4780 N. University Ave. in Provo, Utah on Tuesday, August 4 at 11 a.m. with a viewing preceding at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Blvd. in Riverside, California followed by the interment. The date will be available soon on this website. Flowers may be sent or a donation made in Colleen’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association . The family would like to thank everyone at Ashford Springville, especially the CNAs and her care coordinator who were always so kind and loving and much appreciation to her Yarrow Hospice team, especially her aids and her nurse, Sydney.
