Fernando Cesar Casal, 67, passed away in Provo, Utah on June 27th, 2020 surrounded by his family. He valiantly battled pancreatic cancer for a year. Even though this was a difficult trial, each day when asked how he was he would say, “I AM HAPPY.” This response is a mark of the greatness of his soul. During his struggles, he was more concerned about the well being of others.

Fernando was born on July 16th, 1952 in Guayaquil - Ecuador to Fernando H. and Cora Casal. He is survived by Jaime E Casal, Otto A Casal (Susan), and Silvia Calderon (Mario), his Godson KesLee Shell (Seini) and many dear nieces and nephews.

He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ecuador-Colombia mission.

Fernando was interested in many areas of study. He earned his private pilot license. He earned Associates degrees in Business Administration, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and Auto Mechanics. He found such an interest in the auto mechanic field that he continued that profession for the next forty years. His favorite part of his professional work was to solve difficult problems. Fernando had a lifelong love of learning and was an avid reader; learning about many fields of interest, which made him an interesting person to converse with. Fernando had a great love for nature and wildlife. This was very apparent by the number and variety of animals he brought into his childhood home including monkeys, birds, dogs, iguanas, hamsters, and a baby wildcat! He cared deeply for them. As an adult, he always had a couple of dogs and some cats.

Fernando lived a life of continually trying to be better and more Christlike. He succeeded. Every person who knows him describes him as nonjudgmental, kind, thoughtful, and loving. He had a great love for Father in Heaven and his Savior Jesus Christ. During this past year, he felt like he learned at an accelerated pace and his life was spiritually rich. This influenced how he treated others and interacted with them. Fernando will be greatly missed. He has left a big hole in the lives of his family and friends.

We love you Fernando!
