Karin Suzanne Eriksson Buck, 76, of Provo, died August 4, 2020 after a fall in her home.
Karin was born April 24, 1944 in Oakland, California, the second of six daughters born to Karl Oskar Edvard Eriksson and Norma Frances Kest Eriksson. She grew up in Oakland, Turlock and Concord, graduating from Clayton Valley High School in 1962. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, where she majored in history and geography. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1966, she taught Utah history, geography and general music classes at Evergreen Junior High School in Mill Creek.
Karin married Danny Lee Buck in the Salt Lake Temple on August 22, 1968, and they moved to Concord, California, where they had a family of six children. After Dan Buck died in a car accident in December 1981, Karin moved her family to Provo to re-enter the work force. She became certified to teach special education, primarily working at Cherry Hill Elementary in Orem, where she also served as an assistant principal. She retired from teaching in 2006.
After retirement, Karin spent more time with her family and visiting with friends at church. She loved people and enjoyed learning about their lives. She also loved to read, and joined a book group to discover and discuss new books. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved to nurture people through sharing good food. Perhaps most importantly, she had the talent of being a good listener.
Karin was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith was a crucial part of her identity, and although she was as imperfect as any of us, she tried very hard to follow the example and teachings of Jesus Christ and to be a little better every day.
She was predeceased by her parents, Karl and Norma; her sisters, Kathleen and Bonnie; her husband, Dan; and his parents, Price and Lorene. She is survived by three sisters: Linda (Ian) Hart of Arnold, California; Maureen (Douglas) Muhlestein of Concord, California; Marcia (John) Hetzler of Martinez, California; and a brother-in-law, Bruce (Sue) Buck of Anderson, Indiana. She is also survived by her six children: Suzanne (Curtis) Houghton of Redmond, Washington; Daniel (Bobbi Jo) Buck of Perry, Utah; Timothy (Tara) Buck of Provo, Utah; Julie Buck of New Orleans, Louisiana; Jennifer Buck of Holladay, Utah; and Michele Buck of Salt Lake City, Utah; plus seven grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A viewing will be held Monday, August 10 from 6 to 8 PM for friends and neighbors. There will also be a viewing for family on Tuesday, August 11 from 10 to 10:45 AM at the Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 North University Avenue, Provo. The funeral will follow at 11 AM at the mortuary. It will also be available on this website for all those unable to physically attend. Burial in the Provo City Cemetery.
