Macy Lynne Goodwin Meservy, 74, of Lindon, UT, passed away on November 13, 2020, from complications due to COVID-19.

Macy was born April 7, 1946 in Idaho Falls, ID, to Clarence LaVar Goodwin and Myrtle Alvilde Prestgard Goodwin. She was the oldest of 5 children. She grew up in Riverside CA, where she graduated from Riverside Poly High School. She loved to sing and traveled to Europe with her singing group at the age of 18. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, UT where she met and married Richard Martin Frederick. They moved to Japan with the Air Force, where they welcomed their first child Wendy Ann. At 8 months pregnant, she returned to Lake Arrowhead, CA to welcome their second child Jill Marie. School and jobs took them back to Provo, UT where Steven Michael was born. Then onto Thayne, WY, where Scott Aaron was born in the neighboring town of Afton. The family finally settled in Salem, OR. Macy worked, raised her children and attended college at a nearby university. She finished her undergraduate and Master’s degree in Special Education at Western Oregon State College. As a natural educator, Macy taught many children over the years. Her special needs students were very dear to her heart.

She lived in Singapore for several years with her husband and sons where she taught 2nd grade at the Singapore American School. She greatly enjoyed living and traveling in the area. Experiencing different cultures, learning phrases in new languages and appreciating the art and history of the region was exciting for her. She made many friends from all over the world, many of whom she stayed in touch with over the years.

After returning from Singapore, she moved to Provo, UT. She later married Kumen Meservy and moved to Northern, CA. They eventually relocated back to Utah again to be closer to family.

Macy joined a local choir and performed often. She would sing at family gatherings and around the house. Macy was very outgoing and made friends wherever she went. She always had her hair and nails done as she loved to be pampered. She was front and center for family pictures and activities, never wanting to miss out. She called, texted and mailed her children and grandchildren regularly, always including money in her grandchildren’s birthday cards. She loved her grandchildren and was so proud of them all.

Macy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She patterned her life on the teachings of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She served in many callings over the years. She loved going to the temple and reading the scriptures. Her greatest desire was to love and be loved. Her compassion was endless and her loyalty was profound. She felt losses very deeply and the tragedies of her life affected her immensely. We pray she is now feeling joy and peace as she is again reunited with family members she has loved and missed. We know she was welcomed home and into the open arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Macy is survived by her husband, Kumen Meservy. Her children Wendy (Matthew) Clark, Jill (Richard) Meservy, Steven (Jenny) Frederick. Her siblings David (Traci) Goodwin, Jody Wilkinson, Robbie (Debbie) Goodwin and John (Kathy) Goodwin. She has 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who love her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Chuck and Bunny, her son, Scott Aaron Frederick, nephew Aaron Torjus Wilkinson and brother-in-law Scott Wilkinson.

Macy was diagnosed with COVID-19 on October 7, 2020. She was cared for by the professional and courageous staff at IMC in the Covid ICU unit. Unfortunately, her family could not be with her but the nurses and doctors stepped in with such tender care and grace. We are forever grateful for these heroic people who cared for our mother in her last days.
