Margaret Jack Saxton Martin, our dear mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2020. She was born on October 8, 1929 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Ralph Merl Saxton and Mildred Isabel Breckinridge. She was a beautiful child with vibrant red hair and won a beauty contest at age 2. Her dad nicknamed her Rusty. She went to elementary school in a one room schoolhouse in Oklahoma. Her family moved to Bremerton, Washington when she was 12 years old. She played the flute in junior high on a flute her grandfather had brought from Scotland. Margaret graduated from Bremerton High School.

She met her sweetheart Joseph Martin on a blind date and they were married on July 11, 1947. Their marriage was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 10, 1956. They were married for 62 years.

Margaret was an excellent bookkeeper and sales person at Manette TV for 37 years.

She was a devoted convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many callings in the church including Young Womens teacher and Stake Young Womens president for 13 years. She was beloved and adored by her young women. She also served as Relief Society president and as family history consultant. Margaret loved to attend the Seattle Washington Temple and was on the sealing team.

Margaret was an extremely creative and talented person. She was an accomplished seamstress, making beautiful clothing for children and grandchildren. She had a business with her sister Rochelle called “Butterflies and Roses”. They made exquisite ribbon embroidery framed pictures and Victorian angel boxes which they sold at craft shows and on consignment at antique stores. Margaret also created gorgeous backdrops and table decorations for many wedding receptions.

Among her most cherished qualities was gratitude in all situations. She often complimented employees in stores on their great service and their wonderful smiles. She expressed her thankfulness continually to caregivers and staff at the Golden Living Center. They lovingly called her “Miss Margaret”. She was gracious, kind, and giving. She sacrificed and went without so her family and others could have what they needed. Her personality and peaceful spirit had a calming effect on those around her. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and followed His example of service and unconditional love.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Joe, her daughter Marcella, her parents, and her siblings Marianna, Thomas, and Rochelle. She is survived by her sons Larry Martin (Eva) of Surprise, AZ, Gary Martin (Debbie) of Taylorsville, UT, Darrell Martin (Lori) of Orem UT, Duane Martin (Lynne) of Fort Wayne, IN, and her daughter Laurelyn Shirley (Lyle) of Boxborough, MA. She also has a stepson Jeff Martin (Judy) of Inkom, ID. She will be greatly missed by her 31 grandchildren and 65 great grandchildren.

The family gives our deepest gratitude to the compassionate and loving caregivers, hospice nurses, and home health providers at the Golden Living Center and Homewell Senior Care with special thanks to Aspire Health and Hospice – Rose, Ronda, and Judith.

Services will be held at the Nelson Family Mortuary 4780 N. University Ave., Provo on Saturday November 7, 2020 with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral at 11:00 a.m. for family members only due to COVID-19 restrictions.
