Obituary

Ruth Marie Sexton Lund
1993-2020

Ruth Marie Sexton Lund, 27, passed away on October 29, 2020, in Vineyard, Utah.

Born March 22, 1993 in Roanoke, Virginia, she was the youngest of the seven children of Edwin
Allen and Dawna Williams Sexton. Ruth and her identical twin sister Rachael were miracles –
they were very premature, so their survival with no long-term health complications was a
blessing that shocked their doctors. Ruth loved growing up in the beautiful Virginia countryside
and had an early appreciation of nature, the earth, and all of God’s creations.

Ruth moved to Rexburg, Idaho, when she was twelve. She graduated from Madison High School
and attended BYU-Idaho before leaving home at the age of nineteen to serve a full-time mission
in the Korea Seoul South Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from
January 2013 to July 2014. Ruth was close with all her family, but inseparable from her identical
twin sister Rachael, so serving a mission in a distant country was a great act of faith, growth, and
courage for her.

Following her mission, Ruth graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Brigham
Young University in Dec 2018. She loved the arts and literature, especially poetry.

On August 3, 2019, Ruth married Samuel Ray Lund in the Provo City Center Temple. Sam was
the love of her life and their wedding was a joyous occasion surrounded by loving family and
friends. Ruth and Sam made their home in Vineyard, Utah County, Utah, where they enjoyed
activities and games with friends and gathered frequently with family. Ruth also loved staying
connected to her mission country, eating and cooking Korean food and maintaining her language
skills by watching Korean dramas. She enjoyed drawing and doing family history work and
serving in the temple. Above all, Ruth had a great love and abiding testimony of the gospel of
Jesus Christ.

Ruth is survived by her husband Sam, his parents, Mark and Barbara Lund; Sam’s sisters Ellen
(Scott Henneman), Audrey (Eric Ursic) and Andrea (Ryan Teague), ten nieces and nephews,
Sam’s grandmother Toy Lund, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Of her Sexton family, she was preceded in death by her oldest brother, Zephaniah, who died in
infancy. Ruth is survived by her parents, brothers Michael, William (Annette), Schuyler, and
sisters Olivia and Rachael. Ruth is also survived by two nieces, her grandmother Mary Lou
Sexton, and her loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Her passing is heartbreaking to all who knew her and she will be deeply missed by her loved
ones.

Ruth helped me out staying with her Grandma Williams when I was at work so many times during the last few months of Grandma's life. She was always so kind and gracious with Grandma, and so cheerful about helping--sometimes at the last minute, when my regular care provider had fallen through. She would also sometimes volunteer to get to us by riding the transit bus, which I know would add an hour to her time and was most inconvenient. She is one of the kindest, most gentle-hearted people I have ever known. Oh my heart, she will be so deeply missed.
