Obituary

Vonnie Jensen Burton

Vonnie Jensen Burton passed away on a beautiful fall afternoon, October 24, 2019 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Vonnie was born in Salina, Utah on June 12, 1945 to Ronald F. and Melba Bagley Jensen and grew up in Richfield, Utah. She attended Richfield High School where she was active in student government, pep club and drama, playing the leading roll in many musical productions. She received numerous honors and awards. After graduation she attended Snow College where she continued participating in the drama department’s musicals and plays . She was the AWS President, crowned Miss Snow College and graduated with an Associate Degree. She continued her education at Brigham Young University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education and Drama.

Vonnie was employed by the Nebo School District for 41 years teaching English, Speech, and Drama at Springville Junior High. She was an excellent teacher, very devoted, and loved writing and directing the school’s plays and assemblies. She especially enjoyed working with the students to develop their talents, self confidence and interest in drama. Many students loved her as their “favorite” teacher.

In July 1995, Vonnie married Carlyle S. Burton. They shared a fun and loving relationship until he passed away in September 2009.

Vonnie was multi-talented and shared her talents to not only improve her life but the lives of those she taught and associated with. She loved singing and performing in musicals and plays, playing the violin, and was an excellent artist. She also loved learning, reading and writing and was very creative and had a special flare for decorating and arranging things artistically. She loved decorating for the holidays and was the ultimate party planner. She was very patriotic and loved American History and to talk politics. Vonnie loved nature and had a special place in her heart for all animals.

Vonnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and demonstrated a great love for her Savior by using her many talents to serve others and in her various callings. She especially loved singing in the ward choir. She enjoyed ministering and reached out to those in need as a caring friend. She was dearly loved by her family, neighbors, and friends.

Vonnie is survived by her siblings: Merrill Jensen, Randall (Valerie) Jensen, Voneene (Michael) Jorgensen and Janet Thorpe. Vonnie was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. Vonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband and parents.

The family would like to thank the sweet and kind caregivers of 1st Choice Hospice and her many friends and neighbors for the love and support.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30-10:45, at Nelson Family Mortuary located at 4780 N. University Avenue in Provo, Utah. Interment will be at the Richfield Cemetery located 780 North Main Street, Richfield Utah at 4:00 p.m.
